World number one Scottie Scheffler has been charged with assaulting a police officer outside a Dallas restaurant, according to ESPN. The incident occurred on Friday night after Scheffler finished his round at the AT&T Byron Nelson tournament.

According to ESPN, Scheffler attempted to drive around the crash scene on a median when he was stopped by police. Officers allege that Scheffler then dragged an officer with his car as he attempted to flee the scene. The officer was not seriously injured.

Scheffler was later detained and handcuffed by police. He was released on bond and is scheduled to appear in court on May 24th.

The PGA Tour has released a statement saying that it is aware of the incident and is "gathering the facts." Scheffler is scheduled to play in the second round of the US PGA Championship on Saturday.
